Q. What things are important to ConnectUs Church?
A. It’s hard to boil it down to just 1 thing. Check out https://www.connectuschurch.org/mission-vision-values for a list of the things we value.
Core values make clear the reason the church does what it does. They drive the church to accomplish its mission. We want our values to align with the Bible so that what we do honors God and leads us to accomplish the mission that He has called us to.
Our first and primary value is that we are focused on Jesus. If we had to boil everything down to one thing this would be it. In one his letters to the church in Corinth, Paul writes, “so whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT). He had just spent 15 verses talking about if someone should eat meat that was offered to idols. He then concludes with these words. Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
So often we get caught up in trying to figure out if we should do something or not. Is this right or wrong, we ask. Is it a sin to (fill in the blank)? While it’s important to ask these kinds of questions, oftentimes the more time we spend thinking about these things the less time we have to think about a better question. Instead of figuring out how close to the line of sin we can get without going over the line, why don’t we spend time figuring out how best we can glorify God in this situation? No matter what it is, do it all for the glory of God. And if you can’t do it for the glory of God, you probably shouldn’t be doing it 🙂 .
A practical application of this value is what Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:33, “I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.” When we live for the glory of God, we not only do what is right in God’s eyes, but we do what is best for others [ultimately these are the same thing!]. We should live less with a me centered way of thinking and live more with an others centered way of thinking. When we do everything for the glory of God, we think about how what we do impacts other people and adjust our lives accordingly to accomplish the ultimate mission. We want to live in such a way that many people will be saved as a result of the choices we make.
So, no matter where we are or what we are doing we desire to do all for the glory of God.
