This Sunday
Sermon Title: RETHINK: The Naughty And Nice List
The naughty and nice list Santa is keeping has to be one of the most famous lists in our culture. Everyone knows those on the naughty list get coal. How do you know that? The gospel of Jesus Christ is so much better than this. Stop relating to God like He is Santa with a list going to find out if you are naughty or nice.
Sermon Points and Questions
1. Did you ever believe in a "naughty and nice list?"
2. Where do you think this idea comes from: "If I do more good things than bad things then God will let me into heaven when I die."
3. What is on your "list?" What things have you been keeping track of that have impacted your life today? What things do you think disqualify you from what God has for you? What things have come to define who you are today?
4. How does Christmas start a new *unconditional* way of relating to God?
5. What lists in the New Testament are the most challenging for you? Where do you feel like you are doing pretty good and where do you feel like you could be doing better?
The only list that matters at the end of time is the book of life.
Is your name on that list?
That other list of all the wrongs things you've done...
LET. IT. GO.
Here are some great scripures from the song (click HERE to listen) we closed the service with today
1 Cor 13:5 – love keeps no record of wrongs
Psalm 103:12 - He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
2 Cor 5:17 - 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!
Colossians 2:14 - He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
Revelation 20:11-15 NLT
11 And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave[b] gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14 Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 22:21-27 NLT
22 I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. 24 The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory. 25 Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there. 26 And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city. 27 Nothing evil[f] will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Revelation 3:5 NLT
All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine.
