This Sunday
Sermon Title: Don't Grow Weary
Do you feel worn out in your walk with Christ? As God stretches you and grows you, you need to get the presence, power, plan, and purpose in the right order. When we start messing with this, we feel depleted.
Sermon Points and Questions
1. What does it mean to you to grow in your faith?
2. What is one meaningful experience in your life where you would say your faith grew?
3. Do you spend more time talking about fishing... or do you go fishing?
4. Who is sending you out that you report to.. and who are you sending out that reports to you?
5. The goal of growing as a disciple extends far beyond the walls of the church. We want to support you in your ministry to the people where you live, work, and play.
6. When spiritual growth means focusing on others our natural tendancy is to put up walls and shut people out.
7. Where have you gotten the presence, power, plan, and purpose out of order?
8. We feel depleted when we try to accomplish our plans in our power.
My plans get my power. God’s plans get God’s power
9. Is your first instinct to invite other people to join you in something and help them succeed, or do you tend to try to do it yourself?
We must develop people.
Our hearts have to break for them.
We must stop just talking about fishing and actually fish.
We need to stop comparing our spiritual knowledge and start actually sharing what little we do know.
We must stop making judgements about people and start loving and serving people.
10. The Holy Spirit needs to be the power to make this happen. Learn to invite Him into your disicpleship relationships and you will grow.. while the focus is on developing others.
Luke 9:1-6, 10-11 NLT
9 One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples[a] and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. 2 Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 “Take nothing for your journey,” he instructed them. “Don’t take a walking stick, a traveler’s bag, food, money,[b] or even a change of clothes.
4 Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town. 5 And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.” 6 So they began their circuit of the villages, preaching the Good News and healing the sick.
…
10 When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida. 11 But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who were sick.
