This Sunday
Sermon Title: Be Transformed by a POWERFUL God
The world wants to conform us to its mold, but our God is stronger to transform us. He designed our brains in such a way that He can transform us by renewing our minds. Your thoughts lead you to do what you are doing. Want to change? Start with your thoughts.
Sermon Points and Questions
1. How have you experienced being "conformed to this world?"
2. What does your inner fight look like? Sound like?
3. Do you have stories of how friends have helped you? How about stories when they did not?
4. Do you look for a reason why you are being punished by God when bad things happen? Why or why not?
5. What do you think Job (the perfect guy), have to repent of? What does this teach us about repentence and sin?
6. Elihu helped Job see the truth. What exactly did he reveal to Job? Why do you think this was helpful?
7. What is it about the powerful creatures that God describes that helps Job find his place and expereince healing and transformation?
8. What are some new thoughts you can help you think? Renew your mind!

Neuroscience shows us that when we think a thought, our brain builds neural pathways to make thinking that thought even easier the next time. We can get locked into repeating thought patterns. But science also shows us that our thought patterns are elastic—over time, they can grow, change, and evolve.
**This is true no matter how old you are. You can teach an old dog new tricks! (might take a little longer.. but you can!)
Thoughts to think:
- I am strong and mighty. I have the same power that raised Christ from the dead dwelling inside of me. I am a weapon of righteousness in a world of darkness.
- I am not my past. I am not what I did. I am who God says I am. He says I am forgiven. He says I am redeemed. He says I am free.
- I am not a hostage to unhealthy thoughts. The weapons I fight with are not the weapons of this world. I have divine power to demolish strongholds.
- I have the mind of Christ directing my thoughts. I have the Word of God guiding my steps.
Romans 12:2 NLT - Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Job 42:1-6 NLT (and a whole lot more from JOB)
Then Job replied to the Lord:
2 “I know that you can do anything,
and no one can stop you.
3 You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’
It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about,
things far too wonderful for me.
4 You said, ‘Listen and I will speak!
I have some questions for you,
and you must answer them.’
5 I had only heard about you before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes.
6 I take back everything I said,
and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”
